    That “s” vs double “s” is really confusing me because in English there is really only one way to say “s”. The two ways you pronounced kinda sounded the same. Is it that the double “s” has more of an “uh” sound?

    • @KoreanwithMissVicky
      @KoreanwithMissVicky 47 минут назад

      You can think of ㅅ as having a weaker and softer S sound (kind of like a hissing sound) while ㅆ is closer to a stronger S sound.

      The order of what you’re giving and whom you’re giving it to is not that strict in Korean sentences. You can place either "my boss" or "email" first, and both will be grammatically correct!

    *Here are some corrections to standardized romanization : ㄱ as a final consonant is romanized as "k" 01:26 약 : yak 02:18 미국 : mi-guk 02:47 책 : chaek 03:12 한국 : han-guk ㄷ as a final consonant is romanized as "t" 05:10 곧 : got (same applies to ㅅ,ㅈ,ㅊ,ㅌ,ㅎ as a final consonant) ✅Useful Note on Romanizations : If you are studying with my book (All-You-Need Korean for Absolute Beginners), you'll notice that the romanizations for some words are different from the video. As mentioned in the book guide, the book uses standardized romanization. For the most accurate romanizations, please refer to the book. The reason why different resources provide varying romanizations is that each believes their version best represents the pronunciation in English. This confusion often stems from the fact that Korean and English have different pronunciation systems. However, there is a standardized system for romanizations of Korean words, which the book follows. Please note that aside from providing place names to foreigners or when teaching Hangeul to foreign students for the first time, it's uncommon to use romanized letters for Korean words. So ultimately, at some point, you will need to get comfortable reading Hangeul alone and drop romanization for more effective studies. Therefore, when studying Hangeul and using romanization, it is important to practice recalling the Korean pronunciation that each romanized letter represents, rather than taking the letters at face value.

      Sentences ending in -(으)세요 use honorific forms of verbs. By using honorific verbs, you show even more politeness to the person you’re talking to or referring to. So basically, while both are 존댓말 (polite speech), the second one shows more respect to the person you’re asking the question about. If you’d like to learn more about honorific verbs, feel free to study with this video : ruclips.net/video/v7oFvmlrKD8/видео.htmlsi=wm6aRRSzAuU7IC5P

      I really, really appreciate your supportive message and acknowledgment of my hard work! My somewhat American-sounding accent comes from my childhood practice. My mom used to be one of those Korean moms who were keen on English education for their children, and she had me practice pronouncing English every day by repeating after audiobooks and movies, mainly American ones. That's how I ended up with my current accent when I speak English. I've only been to the UK for travel and have never lived there, but I have studied and lived in the US as an exchange student for a semester. Yes, my major is English Literature, and they taught both British and American literature at my university :) Anyhow, I hope you continue your Korean studies, and I'll keep making videos to help you along the way!
